Self-Compassion, Mindfulness, Emergent Self-Wisdom with Kristy Arbon
In response to the demand for a way to connect with like-minded people and practice the skills taught in the Mindful Self-Compassion training, MSC teachers Kristy Arbon and David Spound will be offering a 5 day Mindfulness, Lovingkindness and Self-Compassion Retreat at the beautiful Barre Center for Buddhist Studies where Kristy lived and worked for five years. This is not an MSC training program, but builds on the skills learned at MSC by offering a quiet container supportive of immersion in the MSC practices. This retreat satisfies the retreat prerequisite for enrolling in MSC Teacher Training.
The format of this retreat will be based on this schedule:
Early morning group meditation
Breakfast
Yogi jobs and free time
Morning group session of instruction and meditation (sitting, walking, lying, movement etc)
Lunch
Yogi jobs and free time
Afternoon group session of instruction and mediation (sitting, walking, lying, movement etc)
Dinner
Yogi jobs and free time
Evening session of didactic material and group sharing.
Personal practice
The emphasis of this retreat will be the continual and ongoing support for each of us to tune into our bodies, ask ourselves what we need, and give that to ourselves. This is a wonderful opportunity to really get in touch with our relationship with the MSC material, and to practice creatively with it.
The retreat will begin with registration at 4pm on the opening night, then dinner at 6pm and a retreat opening at 7:30pm. Following the evening session, we will move into companionable or noble silence, talking quietly if needed for practical purposes but otherwise giving ourselves the gift of time, space and the freedom to explore our internal landscape with minimal external distraction. We will share with each other during evening sessions, but other than that, we will hold ourselves and each other in companionable silence. We will then transition out of silence on the final morning, and finish the retreat after lunch on the last day.
This is an ideal retreat to sit if you are considering applying for MSC Teacher Training, or if you want to deepen your MSC practice. Ideally, you will have either done MSC training or you will have sat a silent retreat before coming to this particular retreat. This is not a retreat for those brand new to meditation. While there will be instruction for the meditations being practiced, the teachers assume that all participants have some meditation retreat experience.
Please Note: The fee for this retreat includes payment for the teachers and an extra contribution for BCBS. You will have the opportunity to offer dana to BCBS and to the teachers if you wish to contribute further.
