In this 4-week series we’ll explore the main scientific underpinnings of our understanding of stress and how to tend to stress from the Somatic Self-Compassion program, including:
Week 1 April 3 Sensory Modulation: Soothing through the senses (timezone converter here)
Week 2 April 17 The Polyvagal Theory: The physiology of protective and trauma responses (timezone converter here)
Week 3 April 24 Interoception: Mindful body-awareness (timezone converter here)
Week 4 May 1 Neurochemicals: Stress chemicals and happiness chemicals (timezone converter here)
Gatherings will be online in Zoom at 3pm US Central Time for one and a half hours. Each Gathering will be a combination of:
guided contemplative Somatic Self-Compassion practice and reflection,
exploration of the topic through group discussion and weaving of informative material,
reflection exercise to experientially explore the material.
Participants will be given access to a site on the learning management system, PowerSchool Learning, where they’ll find supplemental material to use for their own practice and in their work with clients. Attendance in person is not required as the Gatherings will be video recorded and posted to PowerSchool Learning.
This series is suitable for anyone wanting to explore the physiology and neurochemistry of stress and wellbeing as they relate to self-compassion practice including:
mindfulness and self-compassion teachers;
therapists and other helping professionals;
mindfulness and self-compassion students and practitioners.
