Exploring different ways to offer soothing, gentle pressure touch as a way to ground your awareness when you’re feeling stress. How is it to ground, then return to the stress, then ground again?

As I prepare for the first Gathering of our next Somatic Self-Compassion Online group today, I was feeling some difficult emotions in my body. I did the Grounding Awareness in Soothing Touch meditation.

As I settled in to the meditation, I discovered resistance to the difficult emotions, then I discovered that the difficult emotion was nervousness.

After the first soothing gentle pressure touch I discovered that the nervousness was about being with a group of people I hadn’t yet been in this format in community with before, and that it was related to a feeling of disconnection with these folks.

After the second soothing gentle pressure touch I got in touch with a child part of myself who felt disconnected from the people around her, who was sad about not being in her community.

After the third soothing gentle pressure touch I simply felt seen and heard by myself. Moving to awareness of the breath at the end felt simple, soothing, and mostly devoid of any difficult sensations in my body.

If you choose to do this one, hope you find it soothing.
