Noticing how 20 minutes goes by really quickly during guided self-compassion meditation! I found myself wondering how much of the benefit of meditation comes simply from distracting the mind from it’s usual wanderings and giving it soothing imagery to anchor in. While the the situation that is making me sad is still there, just the reprieve from being embedded in it, together with the lovely imagery of nature and the wisdom of impermanence have brought me to another place where I feel more hopeful about the future.
