Tara Hickey

Tara Hickey likes to live in a world where she notices the earth under her feet and the touch of the wind against her face. When she stumbles, trips or falls flat on her face she is grateful when she manages to catch herself with a blanket of self-compassion.

As a clinical psychologist and mindfulness teacher she has adapted the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program for youth with mental health difficulties, taught mindfulness classes to incarcerated young women and has taught Mindfulness Self-Compassion programs to the general public.

She has undertaken training with Neff and Germer, founders of the Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training program, in the US. She is also passionate about Compassion Focused Therapy and has undertaken training with Paul Gilbert in Europe. She is currently completing a PhD focusing on mindfulness and compassion for at risk youth. She has also recently accepted an invitation to be a committee member of the Compassionate Mind Australia.

When she’s not rock-climbing, dreaming about going touring on her bicycle or practicing yoga you can find her on her couch enjoying chai tea and dark chocolate.

She lives in Melbourne, Australia, and is looking forward to connecting with others through HeartWorks.
